North Murray High School NHS Chapter Wins National Award for Service
Chatsworth, GA – For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and efforts to improve the school and community, the National Honor Society (NHS) awarded the North Murray High School NHS Chapter the Service Award of Excellence, announced on September 19, 2025. NHS is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), which also oversees the National Association of Student Councils.
In 2024 - 2025, the NMHS Chapter helped the community in several ways. One way is by collecting recycling and taking it to Keep Chatsworth Beautiful. Students and teachers placed their recycling in bins in the school, and bimonthly Chapter members collected it and took it to the recycling center. Members picked up trash around the school grounds and parking lots in the Fall and Spring, making the campus ready for staff, students, and visitors. Several members helped with the Food Drives at both North Murray High School and Murray High School each month. Members fundraised with baked goods in December and Valentine treats in February to raise money to give a $600 Scholarship in the memory of Lachlan Beck; Senior Jedsen Pritchett was chosen as the recipient by the NHS Committee. Members sold pinwheels and collected donations to support the Family Support Council of Whitfield and Murray Counties, raising $750. They then placed 750 pinwheels in front of the school in April to raise awareness of Child Abuse and aid in prevention.
"The NHS Chapter Pillar Awards celebrate chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for—students who don't just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities," said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. "The North Murray High School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change."
The students were led by a strong group of officers: President Zaine Collins, Vice President Kirsten Hayes, Secretary Amy Solorzano, and Treasurer Jedsen Pritchett. “It was the leadership of these four students who helped our NHS Chapter shine, because they sought opportunities to help in the community and made it happen,” said Lisa Pritchett, adviser. “I couldn’t be more proud of the extraordinary students at NMHS for their commitment to excellence and making a difference.” Co-adviser Deb Liner had this to say when she heard the news, “The NHS members at North Murray are very passionate about servicing their community. I am very proud of their accomplishments. Daphne Winkler, Principal at North Murray, added, “I would like to give a big shoutout to our amazing teachers Mrs. Lisa Pritchett and Ms. Deb Liner for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to nurturing student excellence at North Murray High School. They truly inspire and empower the leaders of tomorrow.”
The NHS Chapter Pillar Awards are prestigious recognitions to celebrate the outstanding achievements of NHS chapters across the country. In addition to basic requirements, the chapters must have demonstrated successful activities that exemplify one or all of the core values of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
